Note: This was originally scheduled for this Friday but we had to change that due to a cancelled flight (with a resulting personal schedule change). We updated the news but some may not have seen it or had time to re-notify their users. Thank you for understanding.

What is being done?

To board Admins: In case you missed the news post in your control panels or the community forums we are doing a systems upgrade for one of our servers. Below is a part of that announcement:

"OK, so, this Friday we are upgrading the MySQL server to an 8 core like we did to the Apache server a week or so ago. If you remember, after it was done Apache loaded very fast. The same will happen this time except it load even faster and more reliable than ever.

The problems you have noticed on Sundays (Like this Easter) which are caused by our mandatory scans and extra backups will no longer be an issue since this server will have the power to push through it without you even noticing.

We will also be setting up the database replication while we make the switch so you can be sure things will be extra fast after we finish. "

Will this take a long time?

We are moving a lot of data but, we will be doing it in the fastest way possible. Please understand that the time spent now will save a lot of headaches later.

Is my board at any risk?

Your board will be perfectly fine. We are only copying data, not adding or removing it.

Is this going to keep happening?

Certainly not. These upgrades are precautionary upgrades to prevent future bumps in the road. They allow us to offer a faster, more reliable and far more secure service.

How safe will this make us?

Here is the beauty in this upgrade! It will be utilizing SATA RAID 1 drives, meaning, any data stored has an automatic copy made. If there was ever a problem with one drive we would just switch it over.

We'll also have database replication so any data added to your forums will automatically be stored on a totally different server. Since that server won't be used to access boards, we can run continuous backups without anyone noticing. Talk about secure!
